20/04/2009 - Lodge at Tikana strikes Enviro Gold
Congratulations to the Lodge at Tikana, for achieving Enviro-Gold level in Qualmark's new responsible tourism criteria.
Qualmark provide accommodation and activity providers with a star rating, giving customers a quality benchmark that is independently evaluated across a range of criteria. Qualmark have now extended and enhanced their environmental and social criteria, which is worth 5% of the total rating.
Achieving Enviro-Gold is not an easy task, but Dave Lawrence from the Lodge says that being involved in the Sustainable Tourism Charter project run by Venture Southland made it a lot easier. "We would have been at least 12 months, if not longer, from achieving Gold status had we not had the benefit of being part of Sustainable Tourism South."
